Be among the first to learn about breaking news events. This category observes "quiet time" between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. During the overnight hours, only alerts of vital importance will be sent.
Daily Weather Forecast
Each morning at 7:30 a.m., we will text you the daily forecast for our area.
Severe Weather Alerts
Select one or more counties to receive weather alerts immediately after they're issued. Selecting multiple areas may result in duplicate messages. Severe weather warnings will be sent 24/7 as soon as they are issued. Advisories and weather watches will not be sent during the overnight hours.
Eagle Cam Alerts
Be the first to know when major events happen at the Norfolk Botanical Garden eagle nest, such as egg laying and hatching. Because of the widespread interest in our eagles, messages may be sent during the overnight "quiet time" period.
Sports Scores
Get scores and major updates from local colleges, major state universities, local pro teams, and area high schools, beginning with high school football this fall.
School Closings, Military Closings
Select your school or military command from the list and you will receive a text message when WVEC is notified of a closure, delay, or early dismissal. Alerts will be sent as soon as WVEC receives the information.
Traffic Alerts
We'll alert you when there's a major traffic incident on area highways.
Early Bird Traffic Alerts
