HAMPTON -- Hampton Roads, stand up against bullying!

13News is hosting a community-wide rally Saturday, May 5th at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex to salute schools that are taking a stand for peace and kindness and who reject bullying and violence. Our goal is to get a big crowd at the Sportsplex that morning to take a huge community-wide picture that may be used in a national Rachel's Challenge video -- a picture that shows our community standing strong, united against school violence.

Rachel's Challenge is a program in schools across the nation that gives students the skills they need to engage in - and promote - acts of kindness as a way to reject bullying, violence, and other negative behavior.

The rally starts Saturday morning, May 5th at 9:00 a.m. sharp. Please arrive between 8:30-8:45 and bring a canned good.

Guest speakers will include a national representative from Rachel's Challenge and U.S. Congressman Scott Rigell.

The Hurrah Players will sing the national anthem, mascots from the Tides, Admirals and Chik-Fil-A will be there with prizes for the crowd, an inflatable moonwalk will be in place, we're raffling off free limo rides to and from the prom, and you might even get to dunk a 13News personality into the dunk tank.

After the ceremony, there's a kickball tournament for the kids. It's being called the 13News/Rachel's Challenge Rally and Kickin' for Kindness Kickball Tournament.

And as a community-wide act of kindness, we hope everyone who attends will bring a canned good so we can donate food to area food banks.

Come on out, Hampton Roads:  Together we can make quite a statement "for" Rachel's Challenge... for our kids!
