4/1/10, 1:20 p.m., NORFOLK -- We started a blog in January of the USS Bataan's mission to Haiti. I spent the first two weeks of the mission onboard the ship showing the Navy and Marines responding to the earthquake.
Now... their mission comes to an end.
Bataan was the last Norfolk-based ship in Haiti. I will be on the ship beginning tomorrow to give you a rare look at a ship preparing to return home from the INSIDE.
We so often see the homecomings from the pier -- and we'll show you that, too,Saturday morning.
I'll update this blog these next couple days. Also follow me on Twitter: twitter.com/patrickterpstra.And of course look for our reports on 13News.
We are driving to Morehead City, N.C., right now where the ship is pierside offloading Marines and supplies. That's where we'll board tomorrow morning for the trip back to Naval Station Norfolk.
No doubt the sailors are ready to come home.
