VIRGINIA BEACH -- Several events are planned in Virginia Beach in honor of Homeless Awareness Week Dec. 16 to 21.
The Virginia Beach Human Rights Commission and Volunteers of America, in partnership with the Department of Housing and Neighborhood Preservation and the BEACH Community Partnerships, will host a donation drive.
All donations will be distributed in the City of Virginia Beach.
The following donations are appreciated: new or gently used blankets (twin size only), jeans (mens, womens - all sizes), socks, hats, scarves and gloves. Volunteers of America will also accept monetary donations.
Donated items can be dropped off Dec. 16 to 21
Monday - Friday (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and Saturday (7 a.m. to noon)

A National Homeless Memorial Day vigil will be Saturday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m.
"We hope citizens will take a moment out of the longest night of the year to remember those who have died and also to honor persons still facing the challenges of homelessness every day by attending the National Homeless Memorial Day Vigil," said Debbie Maloney, Director of Volunteers of America.
