NORFOLK -- On Tuesday, August 21 at 11 a.m., The Salvation Army Hampton Roads will host a construction kick-off of The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center and celebrate the beginning of construction on the $41 million 91,000 square foot community center in the Broad Creek community of Norfolk.
At the event, The Salvation Army will provide refreshments as well as literature and giveaways to compliment its upcoming after school program and performing arts programs that will be opened in the next year and move into the Kroc Center when the facility is opened in late spring 2014.
When complete, the Kroc Center will house life-changing programs for all citizens to participate in, as per Joan Kroc’s wish, which will be made possible through a sliding membership scale and scholarship opportunities.
Additional features of the Kroc Center include a themed waterpark with a multi-story waterslide, high school size gymnasium, 280 seat chapel theater, health and fitness area, child watch area, lobby café, and community rooms available for a variety of community functions.
