NORFOLK-Summer time is sandal time. Switching from protective winter shoes to revealing summer shoes can cause foot and leg pain because we use different muscle groups with different shoe types.

Injuries can occur when you don't wear the right shoes for the occasion, says Dr. Sara Bouraee from Tidewater Orthopaedic in Hampton.

Some dangers associated with stilettos and strappy sandals are inversion ankle sprains, inflammation, pain, muscle fatigue, bone bruising and blisters.

Flip flops can be dangerous if you have to do a lot of walking, stand on hard surfaces or traversing surfaces that have obstacles.

People with bunions like to wear flip flops because there's no pressure on the bunion, but wearing them in the wrong setting can result in the dislocation of your second toe.
