VIRGINIA BEACH -- Motorcyclists in Hampton Roads are gearing up to ride for a cause.

Approximately 6,000 babies are born each year with Down syndrome and one of the most common concerns from parents is they fear they won't have community support.

Communities near and far are now stepping up to take action.

The first annual Step Up for Down Syndrome Awareness Ride kicks off on Saturday, June 28 at the Southside Harley-Davidson at 385 Witchduck Rd. in Virginia Beach.

Registration is set to begin at 9 a.m., with bikers to take off from the shop at 11:15 a.m.

The ride will finish up at Jager's Beach Bar & Grill where there will be live music and an auction.

Tickets are $10 for bikers, $5 for riders. For more information, contact the Down Syndrome Association of Hampton Roads at 757-466-3696.
