NORFOLK --We're used to seeing those red kettles during the Christmas season as volunteers raise money for the Salvation Army.
On Saturday, May 31, it will be a different kind of red kettle effort with the Kettle Krush 5K and 1K fun run through the Norfolk waterfront.
Officials say the race is a chance to highlight services of the Salvation Army, including food baskets, utility and rent assistance, women's transitional housing, and shelter services.
The race begins at 8 a.m.; participants get a free ticket to the Tides game on Saturday at 7 p.m.
To register or for more information, go to the Kettle Krush 5K Web site or you can call 757-543-8100.
Runners begin at Harbor Park, go along the waterfront, through Town Point Park, alongside Nauticus and USS Wisconsin and finish at home plate inside Harbor Park.
