PORTSMOUTH --It's a night to dress up, party down and help Portsmouth's homeless animals.

On Saturday, August 4, it's the Portsmouth Humane Society’s Second Annual Fur Ball Gala. You and your well-mannered dog can enjoy a night out on the town complete with dinner and dancing.

The formal gala will be held at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel and a special room rate of $89 has been reserved for Fur Ball guests. The event will feature cocktails, a delicious plated dinner with dessert, live entertainment from The Original Rhondels, raffle prizes, best dressed contest and more.

Unlike other black-tie affairs, this event allows and even encourages you to bring your dog! Dogs can belly-up to their very own (treat) bar and talk to their owners using a pet communicator. Event volunteers will be available to babysit your dog while you eat.

“We rely heavily on private donations, so this event is very important to our financial wellbeing and the animals in our care,” said Christie Chipps Peters, executive director at the Portsmouth Humane Society. “We’re hoping animal lovers —and their pets—from all across Hampton Roads will join us for this fun-filled evening.”

More than 250 guests and 80 dogs attended the first Fur Ball Gala and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. It wasn’t uncommon to see owners and dogs out on the dance floor together kicking up their feet (and paws).
