CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC- The Currituck County animal shelter is rushing to get new generators before the next storm comes.

Animal Lovers Assistance League President Ginger Sikes says the its two generators were stolen this spring.

Sikes estimates it will cost about $1,000 to replace both generators.

She says having generators save animals during power outages.

“A lot of animals could die. We need the generator to move the air, so animals can breathe,” she worries.

Sikes says generators run the air filtration system inside the shelter and inside the trailer if animals needs to be evacuated.

To help raise money for the new generators, the shelter is holding a car show fundraiser this Saturday. The annual "Wheels For Paws" car, truck and cycle show will be Currituck High School from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
