NEWPORT NEWS -- In an effort to improve the relationship between the community and emergency services personnel, Newport News will host Field of Friends on August 2.
The event includes interactive games, free food, the distribution of prevention materials.
Field of Friends began when a Newport News police officer witnessed children using a trash dumpster as playground equipment in 2006.
Because of funding no Field of Friends was held in 2013, however the Newport News Police Foundation is assisting with funding for this year’s events.
