NORFOLK -- Two events to help raise awareness for ALS will take place in Hampton Roads over the next couple of weeks.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The disease robs people of the ability to walk, talk and even blink an eye. It traps them inside a body they no longer can control.
In an effort to combat the disease, community members are coming together to help find a cure.
Date: June 26
Time: 5-10 p.m.
Location: 436 Granby Street, Norfolk, VA 23510
The restaurant will donate 20 percent of all sales during that time to the local chapter of the ALS Association. In addition to the great food and drink, there will be a raffle for gift cards to local businesses as well as a Redskins football that will be auctioned off.
Date: July 12
Time: 9 a.m.
Location: 24th Street & Atlantic Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA 23451
The walk is the chapter’s largest fundraiser. Walkers raise about half of the revenue that is needed to provide services to people living with the crippling illness. Walkers will meet at 24th Street Park to raise awareness for the cause.
If you can't make it to either event, you can still donate here.
