VIRGINIA BEACH -- Be part of the Kentucky Derby - Virginia style - by attending Seton Youth Shelters’ A Silks and Irons Soiree: The Crystal Anniversary.
Come dressed for fun and to cheer on your favorite horse. Women, put on your finest hat. The hats are the second biggest attraction of the day at Churchill Downs.
If you don't have one, you can buy a hand-decorated hat when you arrive at Back Bay Farms on Princess Anne Road.
The May 3rd event takes its name from “silks”, the colorful clothing worn by jockeys, with colors representing the race horse’s owner or trainers, and “Irons”, the part of a saddle stirrup which contains the rider’s foot.
The cornerstone event, the 140th “Run for the Roses” at Churchill Downs will be shown via live broadcast, on a giant screen to the guests.
