NORFOLK - In the last two years, the CrossFit community has helped raise more than $600,000 to support military families and loved ones of fallen servicemembers.
The third 31Heroes workout begins August 3 and runs through September 2.
The project was born out of the tragedy of August 6, 2011 when a Chinook helicopter went down in Afghanistan. It was carrying 17 Navy SEALs, two Navy EOD Technicians, three Naval Special Warfare Combat Support Sailors, two Army Aviators, three Army Aircrewmen, three Air Force Special Tactics Operators, and one Military Working Dog.
The 2013 funds will be distributed between Snowball Express and the Travis Manion Foundation. The Snowball Express covers all-expense-paid gatherings for military children.
The Travis Manion Foundation offers Challenge Grants to surviving families that will allow them to complete a project of their choice to keep the memory of their loved one alive (think service projects, education, physical challenges, etc).
You can sign up to be part of the 3rd annual 31Heroes workout the 31Heroes Website.
Registration is $31 per participant.
