--Don’t judge by softness.  Manufacturers often add fabric softeners to create a silky feel which will wash out in the laundry.

--Look for towels made from 100% combed-cotton.  The combing process removes the shorter fibers which makes the fabric feel softer.

--If possible, look for towels made from long-staple cotton which is softer and stronger than short-staple cotton. Egyptian cotton, Supima cotton and Sea Island cotton are a few long-staple varieties.

--Look for the number of fabric loops per square inch.  The more loops, the more absorbent your towel will be.

--Think about color.  Dark colors are more susceptible to fading and should be avoided if you’ll be washing them often.  Mid range and pastels are a better choice for towels that will get a lot of use.

--Before the first use, soak new towels overnight in water and one cup of ammonia.  Then wash them with a cup of vinegar and a cup of laundry detergent.

--New towels will generate a lot of lint.  Dry them in the dryer to help collect the excess lint.  And remember to empty the lint trap.

So try these few Better Living tips to get the most from new bath towels
