NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) — On this Veteran's Day a new mural is going up in Norfolk. It's called 'Remembering the Honored Fallen.'
The artist Sam Welty said its part of a series of murals he’s creating across the country called ‘Great American Series.’
“This is for the people that are on the ground. That could be me, that guy that’s my friend and now they are gone,” said Welty.
Welty was selected to create the mural by the building owners Edward O’Brien with New York Life Insurance Company and William White.
The mural is located on the side of a building in the NEON district along West Olney Road and Wilson Ave. It features service members from five branches of the military in their uniforms but it doesn’t show faces.
“For this one, I didn’t want the attention to be on their skin color, their age anything of that nature. It’s about remembrance, the service, the solemnity. It’s just a nice quiet reverent mural,” said Welty.
