Health officials search for possible bite victim after raccoon tests positive for rabies

Witnesses report a man driving a blue truck in the vicinity of 325 Little Florida Road may have been bitten by the raccoon while trying to remove the animal from the road. He then got back in his truck and left the scene.

POQUOSON, Va. (WVEC) — The Peninsula Health District is trying to identify a man who may have been bitten by a raccoon that has since tested positive for rabies.

The raccoon was located in the 300 block of Little Florida Road on Wednesday, November 14. Witnesses report a man driving a blue truck in the vicinity of 325 Little Florida Road may have been bitten by the raccoon while trying to remove the animal from the road. He then got back in his truck and left the scene.

Anyone who may have any information about this man or knows of any other potential exposure to this animal (bite, scratch or contact with saliva by open wound or eyes, nose, mouth) is asked to call the Peninsula Health District-Newport News Environmental Health Office, (757) 594-7340. Exposures also include direct contact between your pet and the rabid animal.
