Inmate who escaped from South Side Regional Jail recaptured

Police recaptured an inmate who escaped from a jail in Emporia, Virginia.

EMPORIA, Va. (WVEC) — An inmate was recaptured following a manhunt in Emporia on Monday into Tuesday.

Christopher Robinson apprehended Tuesday morning around 9:20 a.m. by the Greensville County Sheriff’s Office without incident.

Robinson is a 46-year-old who escaped from the South Side Regional Jail Monday evening.

He was in jail for misdemeanor larceny of a vehicle. He had 30 days left of a six-month sentence to serve, according to Col. Karen Craig, Superintendent of the Southside Jail.

The Emporia Police Department, Emporia Sheriff’s Office, Sussex Sheriff’s Office, Newport News Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia State Police, and the Southside Regional Jail all helped track down Robinson.
