A 60-year-old employee of Consulate Health Care of Williamsburg was arrested Wednesday after police say he inappropriately touched a resident of the facility.
Charles Robinson, of Newport News, is charged with aggravated sexual battery in connection with the incident, which allegedly happened around 10 p.m. Sunday, James City County Police spokeswoman Stephanie Williams said.
He is being held in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail without bail.
Police were called to Consulate, 1811 Jamestown Road, after Robinson was “observed peering through a window,” Williams said. He had already been asked to leave the premises before police were called, and left on his bike before he was spotted allegedly looking in the window.
Police arrived and found Robinson. They also discovered he was wanted on a warrant out of Williamsburg for violation of probation on a driving under the influence charge, Williams said.
While en route to the jail, an officer spoke with the complainant by phone, who claimed a certified nursing assistant had seen Robinson “inappropriately touching a female resident” before he was asked to leave the premises, Williams said.
Williams said the CNA walked in to find Robinson’s hand allegedly on the breast of a 29-year-old resident, who has some disabilities and is not a permanent resident of Consulate.
Williams said it was unclear whether Robinson touched the resident in any other way, because the investigation is ongoing.
Police got a warrant for Robinson’s arrest Wednesday after an investigation into the report, and arrested him the same day.
It remains unclear whether Robinson is still an employee of Consulate. Victor Pope, Consulate’s administrator, did not immediately return a phone message left at the facility.
Robinson is scheduled to appear at 1 p.m. June 18 in the Williamsburg-James City County General District Court.
