VIRGINIA BEACH - A former PTA president is accused of embezzlement.
Police say Amanda Byrd stole $7,000 from the organization at Lynnhaven Elementary School by cashing seven forged checks before she resigned in December 2008.
Police say Byrd, 37, wrote checks to herself and forged people's signatures.
Byrd faces 21 felony warrants -- seven counts each of obtaining money under false pretense, forgery and uttering.
According to police, Byrd turned herself around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday. She is free on a $15,000 bond.
