VIRGINIA BEACH -- Fire destroyed a building that was home to the old FX/Bill's Flea Market for the third time in a year.
Crews were called to the complex on Va. Beach Blvd. around 1:00 a.m. and say the fire had already gotten a firm grip and the walls of the building had started to buckle.
They also had to battle the high winds that helped move the fire through the building.
"We were able to protect their livelihood" said Battalion Chief Michael Barakey, referring to the nearby businesses that were spared. "They should be able to open for business."
Firefighters dealt with hot spots throughout the morning.
Investigators say it could be days before they know the cause of the fire; however, investigators say the fire was likely started by homeless people taking shelter in the condemned building.
The fire didn't cause any traffic problems in the area.
Bill Barry, the original owner of Bill's Flea Market, told 13News that a new Bill's Flea Market will be opening March 15 at 6820 North Military Highway. It will be in the old AMF Bowling Alley
