NEWPORT NEWS -- A two-day crackdown on prostitution ended with dozens of charges filed.
The undercover sting on Friday and Saturday operated in the 10,000 block of Jefferson Avenue and along the busy roadway.
Police say the Friday operation was run from Colonial Courts Motel, where female undercover officers worked the streets.
The Saturday operation was run by male cops driving along Jefferson Avenue who were then approached, stated police spokesman Lou Thurston.
Authorities say the operation was planned after they received numerous complaints from residents and businesses in the area and saw the situation in the area.
There also is concern that prostitution is spreading into nearby neighborhoods.
