NORFOLK - Police arrested a man for murder last week in Norfolk.
Authorities say Palmer Doyle, 31, shot Travis Motos outside a home in the 8000 block of Radnor early last Thursday, but investigators found him in a car at Fishermans Road and Sunset Drive.
Doyle, arrested in Northumberland County on Thursday, is charged with 2nd degree murder and use ofa firearm charge.
Motos' shooting comes one night after Norfolk's chief of police told neighbors he's alarmed by the apparent uptick in violence. Chief Bruce Marquis met with about 70 Bayview residents Tuesday night, promising increased police patrols of the neighborhood, according to the civic league president.
"Oh no, not again," said Bayview President Dranan Sparks when he learned of the shooting in the usually quiet Norfolk neighborhood.
The shooting took place two blocks from a home where an elderly couple was attacked earlier this month.
90-year-old Marion Wheeler died after being beaten in his home on Sunset Drive; his 86-year-old wife is recovering from her injuries.
The day before that attack, a man broke into a home on Cape View Avenue and assaulted an elderly woman. Police arrested Brian Jordan, who also lives in the neighborhood.
Motos is the city's 20th homicide victim this year.
