NORFOLK -- Police officers enforcing Norfolk's noise ordinance will now have to document a decibel reading before issuing a ticket.
City Council members voted to change the ordinance Tuesday night. The move comes after the Virginia Supreme Court tossed out Virginia Beach's noise ordinance, calling it too vague.
Last week, a Norfolk judge said Norfolk's noise ordinance also relied too heavily on the discretion of police officers.
Norfolk's new noise ordinance sets different allowable decibel levels based on the kind of noise - such as construction, lawn mowers and volume of TVs and radios.
