NORFOLK -- A high school teacher is charged with downloading child pornography on his home computer.
Shon Walter, a computer technology teacher at Granby High School, has been under investigation for several months and, in mid-February, officials told WVEC.com that he was on suspension with pay as the investigation continued.
Following his indictment and arrest Friday, Walter was put on leave without pay, pending the outcome of the case.
According to the federal indictment, agents found images on hard drives and a compact disc taken from his Karlin Circle home during a search in December.
The indictment alleges he received/downloaded images in March, April and June 2005 and in March and December 2008.
Walter has been with Norfolk Public Schools off and on since 1989 and has been at Granby High School since 1995, officials told WVEC.com
Walter, 50, waived his right to a bond hearing.
After that, his attorney said Walter will be vindicated.
"He is an outstanding U.S. citizen, a good role model and teaches children. Hopefully, he will get back in the classroom shortly," said defense attorney John Bonney.
Walter is due in court again next week.
